Gynae B unit is one of the primary center of excellence of gynaecology and obstetrics in Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar. It provides comprehensive services and care to women ensuring quality. The wide spectrum of services offered nurture every phase of women's life. This tertiary care referral centre provides obstetrical and advanced gynaecological surgical procedural facilities with full back up of laboratory, ICU and radiology support and multidisciplinary management facilities.
Labor Room is 19 bedded facility operating for 24 hours receiving and dealing with emergency. It is also equipped with facilities for dealing with normal and abnormal pregnancies and labours, with investigative facilities ultrasound, CTG with expertise and senior input availableall the time. Four delivery tables, neonatal resuscitator and seperate delivery room for hepatitis patients is also available.
Out Patient / Antenatal:
The outpatient department provides consultation clinics to obstetric and gynaecology patients. Gynae OPD and consultant OPD are held twice a week (on Tuesday and Friday). The antenatal clinic aims at providing surveillance and management of routine as well as high risk patients who often requires detailed assessment.
In Patient Ward:
In patient wad is a 34 bedded ward, two bedded high dependency unit with a cardiac monitor, preoperative, postoperative, ante-natal, post-natal chambers and septic room. One room is provided with cardiotocograph and ultrasound for intensive fetal monitoring.
Gynae B Operation Theatre days are twice a week. Three latest well equipped operation theaters with tow OT tables each, designated as obstetric and gynae theatre and endoscopy theatre are available. The endoscopy theatre has state of the art laproscope facility.
Teaching and Training:
Gyane B unit is highly active in research and academic activities. The academic program includes regular morbidity and mortality case sessions, weekly journal club, bedside presentation, subject discussions and tutorials. Regular weekly clinic pathological conferences are conducted. All the post graduate trainees are facilitated in conducting their surgeries under direct supervision of their supervisors. Undergraduate MBBS students are involved actively in ward demonstrations, rounds and problem based learning.
